It’s a big question in the minds of moms who have children who will be young 5 year-olds this fall: should we send our kids to kindergarten since they are technically old enough to go or should we wait a year to be sure they are really ready for school?
Last night, as Kate Gosselin was live tweeting during Kate Plus 8, a viewer had a question for her about the sextuplets and starting school. “They’re 7 and only going into 1st? Shouldn’t they be going into 2nd or 3rd?”
Keep in mind that the sextuplets have May birthdays, so that would have put them as still being young 5s had they started kindergarten in 2009 instead of 2010, like they did.
Kate answered “Nope. Trend is to hold so I did it’s better to be older!”
The viewer then wanted to know if that was just a trend for multiples. Kate responded that it was just a trend in general for kids starting school, that it’s better for them to be older.
I’ve been struggling with this myself, since I have a child who turned 5 in May and I’m not sure whether to send him or to hold off a year. Especially when the trend used to be to send your child at 4 if you thought they could handle it!
Will you send your kindergartener to school on time or hold off like Kate did?
