Celebrity scents are a huge multi-million dollar industry they demonstrate the awesome power of the celebrity name. These fragrances are often inspired by the star’s public persona and always make sure to have their moniker displayed front and center. A Jessica Simpson scent is going to be girly and sweet while a 50 Cent scent is going to be strong and manly. And believe me, these scents really are big business. “The celebrities [see] it as a revenue stream without lot of responsibility, and the manufacturers [see] it as a revenue stream to help their bottom line. They started signing people like crazy,” said Rochelle Bloom, President of the Fragrance Foundation.
“Celebrity fragrances continue to increase in popularity because they allow fans to connect with celebrities on a personal level,” explains Lisa Westbury, Fragrance Brand Manager for Elizabeth Arden. “It is buying into a fantasy, you may not be able to look like Heidi Klum or Halle Berry, but you can smell like her.”
An interesting thing about the fragrance industry are the ways they describe the ‘notes’ in the perfumes and colognes. There are the expected hints of jasmine, gardenia, and berry but then there are the odd additions like precious wood, sensual wood, apple skin, suede, cashmere skin musk and, green almond macaroon.
