Sofia Vergara Gives Tips For Staying Sexy And Confident

As catty as I can be about the jealousy I feel for Sofia Vergara, it’s only because I want to look like her! Even when she is caught in a photo makeup-less, she’s still a beauty. The Modern Family actress is gracing the March issue of Shape, and she looks spectacular!

Want to know Sofia’s suggestions for putting a little va into your voom? Sofia says that the key to charisma is on the inside. “Confident people have a way of carrying themselves that makes others more attracted to them,” she says. “Latin women are very comfortable with their bodies and their sexuality. We aren’t afraid to show that off a little bit more.”

One thing she never leaves the house without? Lipstick. “If I walk outside without lipstick, I feel naked,” she says. “All the women in my family are that way. We put makeup on to give birth! When I started feeling contractions with my son [Manolo, 19], the first thing I did was wash and blow-dry my hair before I went to the hospital. You never know how long you’ll be in labor. It could be days until you’re able to take a shower.”

Sofia has been dating Florida politician Nick Loeb for over a year now.  Six months after they started dating, he was in a terrible car accident that left him temporarily unable to walk. Throughout the whole ordeal, Nick never once got depressed, in fact, quite the opposite. “He kept his sense of humor despite the situation,” says Sofia. “I don’t know if I could have stuck it out with him if he hadn’t been able to laugh at himself and be happy even under the worst conditions. When you see people in difficult times, that’s when their true nature comes out.”

What is one thing that Sofia hates to do? Like many of us, she hates to work out. “Oh, I hate it!” she says. “But I also know that at my age—I’m almost 40!—I have to do it to maintain my figure. When I can, I try to do Latin dancing for exercise because it’s so much fun and I just love the music.” The hard part for her is actually getting to the gym. “Two hours before I go, I’m already wishing it was over,” she admits. Her motivational trick? “I psychologically fool myself into believing it’s part of my job. And then, of course, once I’m done, I’m really glad I did it because I feel so good.”
