Sofia Vergara Wants a Baby! She Reveals: I’m Freezing My Eggs

Sofia Vergara and fiance Nick Loeb walk back to their Miami hotel after an afternoon on the beachShe just had a baby on her hit TV show, and now Sofia Vergara has real-life baby fever!

The Modern Family star tells Vogue proudly (how proudly? She blurts it out before the interviewer has a chance to get her voice recorder ready), “I have to be careful what I eat because they’re freezing my eggs!”

It’s a surprising move for a busy 40-year-old actress who already has a 21-year-old son. But Sofia is newly engaged to businessman Nick Loeb, who has no children of his own, and she’s ready to create a new modern family with him.

Her age drastically lowers her chances of getting pregnant on her own, hence the decision to undergo fertility treatments. She explains that she’s taking pills to stimulate egg production, and then she’ll receive hormone shots to help ripen them before they’re harvested surgically. “[T]hey want to get as many eggs as they can because usually you produce them but they’re not good,” she says. “They have to be perfect, perfect, perfect ones.”

Presumably, the eggs will be frozen until sometime after Nick and Sofia’s wedding, and then used for an IVF procedure. She doesn’t confirm the rumor that they’ll be asking a close friend to act as surrogate, but it seems a likely scenario, given Sofia’s age and work schedule. Her TV character, Gloria Delgado-Pritchett, just had a baby, so it would be difficult to work around a real-life pregnancy – and her figure is key to her commercial brand as well.

Whatever her decision, we wish all the best to Sofia in her parenting journey!
