It’s not every day that you have so much empathy for a cheating, stealing, swindling crook, but Tony Soprano of the uber popular HBO series The Sopranos was one of those characters. And that was all due to the amazing portrayal by actor James Gandolfini. Today we have learned that the acclaimed actor, Emmy winner, and father (he had a teenage son and a daughter – Liliana Ruth Gandolfini- who is just eight months old) has died.
James Gandolfini had been in Italy, in Sicily, to attend the 59th Taormina Film Festival. Although there aren’t many confirmed details yet, it appears he may have died from a heart attack. He was just 51-years-old.
Although he is best known for his work on the Sopranos (where he won three Emmys), he also appeared in True Romance, Get Shorty, The Mexican, and Zero Dark Thirty.
Besides his impressive catalog of work (and who doesn’t want to have a Sopranos marathon right this second), he leaves behind his wife Deborah Lin, his baby daughter, and teenage son.
Our thoughts go out to his family, his friends and all his legions of fans.
