Jennifer Saunders has basically ripped my heart out and crushed my soul by announcing that there are no plans to bring her hit BBC television comedy Absolutely Fabulous to the big screen. In her words, “It will never happen.”
So that means no Edina and Patsy (played by the iconic Joanna Lumley), no Fashion Week shenanigans, no Kardashian disease jokes, and worst of all, no Bubbles!
Jennifer told Glamour Magazine: “We’ve been talking about it for so long and now I’ve just got this feeling that Ab Fab is in such a nice place now – if we made the film there would be such a danger that we could ruin it.”
While there’s a part of me that wants to agree with Jennifer (see: Sex and the City 1 and 2), another part of me wishes she would reconsider her decision, as she and Joanna are comedic gold. Those two women can do no wrong, and I have no doubt in my head that an Ab Fab movie would make me laugh so hard, I’d hurl over in my movie theater seat from extreme pain. And you know what? I wouldn’t mind that at all.
Tell us, would you like to see Absolutely Fabulous hit the big screen, or do you think the series should stay where it is with special-themed episodes here and there instead? Sound off in our comments section!
