The shooting of former Titans quarterback shocked the public, and as sad as that may be, it’s even more tragic for his wife Mechelle and their sons. Sources close to the family say Mechelle was “blindsided” by her husband’s (alleged) affair, that may have ultimately lead to his death. Police won’t confirm the deaths as murder-suicide until all evidence has been looked at.
Mechelle Cartwright has been in the family home since learning of her husband’s death, and a source said, “She’s blindsided by this,” referring to McNair’s alleged relationship with Sahel Kazemi, the 20-year-old waitress who was found dead next to him in his rented condo.
“She’s crushed. Her whole world is shattered,” added the source.
Employees at Dave & Busters, where Kazemi worked, claim McNair and Mechelle used to frequent the restaurant and that is where the slain football player met Sahel. One worker said the relationship had been ongoing for several months.
Police are now investigating a possible “lover’s quarrel” that may have lead to McNair being shot four times, and Kazemi taking her own life. However, they are not ruling out a double homicide until they interview family and friends.
Kazemi’s older sister, who raised her after their mom was killed in Iran, said her sister had a “volatile” relationship with her ex-boyfriend Keith Norfleet, and cops want to interview him. He was apparently trying to win Sahel back from McNair.
Trudie Norfleet said, “They had a lot of jealousy in their relationship and they’d fight and break up a lot. He loved her… He’s awful torn up about it.”
As a wife and mother, I can’t possibly imagine the range of emotions Mechelle must be feeling. Not only does she have to deal with her own grief and the many unanswered questions that her husband’s death has brought, but she must also help her sons deal with this. That’s the real tragedy.
