Steven Tyler American Idol

American Idol season 10 premiered Wednesday night.  While I mentioned that Jennifer Lopez has trouble saying no to contestants, Steven Tyler is coming across as his usual rock-star self.

Many Idol fans are probably too young to know much about Steven Tyler and his band, Aerosmith!

Here are five things about him:

Steven Tyler was born as Stephen Victor Tallarico in March 26, 1948, is the frontman and lead singer of the Boston-based rock band Aerosmith which was formed in 1970.

During his high-energy performances, he usually dresses in bright, colorful outfits with his trademark scarves hanging from his microphone stand.

Tyler had a brief relationship with fashion model Bebe Buell, during which he fathered actress Liv Tyler.  He married Cyrinda Foxe in 1978 and had another daughter, Mia Tyler. He has one grandson, Milo William Langdon, from daughter Liv.   He also married Teresa Barrick and fathered a daughter, Chelsea Anna Tallarico and a son, Taj Monroe Tallarico.

Tyler had a heavy drug and alcohol addiction.  He completed drug rehabilitation in 1986 and has subsequently maintained sobriety for over 20 years, aside from a painkiller addiction in the late 2000s, for which he successfully received treatment in 2009.

Tyler revealed in an interveiw that he had been suffering from Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C for 11 years. He was diagnosed with the disease in 2003 and had undergone extensive treatment from 2003—2006, including 11 months of interferon therapy, which he said was “agony.”
