Still Counting! Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar May Adopt a 20th Child

duggarsThe enormous Duggar family may expand yet again before too long!

Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar tell People magazine that they’re thinking about adopting a child to add to their clan of 19. “We are open to the idea of adoption,” Michelle says. “We are praying about it, and we will see what God has in store. Love for children has been placed in our hearts.”

Their children range in age from early 20s to three-year-old Josie; oldest son Josh and his wife, Anna, have two children and are expecting a third in June.

As those who follow 19 Kids & Counting know, the Duggars are a devoutly religious Christian family who believe that only God can determine a family’s size. And although many moms would be glad to move on from diaper duty after so many children, that’s not the case with Michelle.

The Duggar kids are all for having another sibling, too. “The kids are definitely pushing towards wanting us to open up our house to another child or more,” Michelle tells the magazine. “They see how much we have been blessed with and how little other children have and they want to share.”

While Michelle is also open to going through another pregnancy, she knows that the odds are against her. Now 45, she suffered a miscarriage early last year. So adoption may well be the best way for her to experience new motherhood again.

Still, it’s a huge decision, and she and Jim Bob aren’t making it lightly. Unlike their pregnancies, which they see as a sure sign of God’s will, an adoption is a choice they’ll make only if they feel divinely guided to do so.

“We have to know for sure that is what God wants us to do,” she says.

What do you think? Should the Duggars explore adoption?
