Summertime Emergency Kits for Kids with Suggestions from Heidi Klum

heidi klum kidsWith August right around the corner, many of us moms are planning ahead for the new school year, headed to the store with our back-to-school shopping lists. But, we still have quite a bit of summer and summer weather left!

Celeb mom Heidi Klum has some suggestions for a Summertime Emergency Kit to help keep kids safe and entertained in the summer heat.  We’ll share her ideas plus a few of our own to help you get through the next few weeks! The best part is that all can be found at big box/discount stores.

  • Sunscreen 2 of 12
Heidi Klum reminds us of the dangers of the summer sun on our skin and especially our children's delicate skin. Though she didn't recommend a specific brand, I love Neutrogena Wet Skin for Kids.

  • Sunglasses 4 of 12
Heidi suggests protecting your children's eyes and keeping them stylish with a pair of sunglasses. You can find this cute pair on clearance at The Children's Place for $1.99.
  • Bubble Fun 5 of 12
    Bubble Fun
Bubbles didn't make Heidi's list, but kids love playing with bubbles outside!
  • Bug Repellant 6 of 12

Make sure you use one that is safe for children. Heidi likes this one by California Baby, which you can find at Target.
  • Afterbite Kids 7 of 12

For when the bug repellant fails, Heidi says of this brand "This natural non-stinging cream is made from baking soda, aloe vera and tea tree oil. This cream provides soothing relief from the pain, itching and swelling of insect bites." You can find it at Bed, Bath & Beyond
  • Spray Bottle Fun 8 of 12
    Spray Bottle Fun
Not officially on Heidi's list, but look at the fun her family has with a spray bottle on a hot day!
  • Water Balloons 9 of 12
    Water Balloons
The Klum family must be a fan of water play because waterballoons did make Heidi's list as a fun way to beat the summer heat!
  • Bandaids 10 of 12
I'm adding bandaids to this summer survival kit. My kids seem to get more scraped knees and elbows in the summer than during any other time of year.
  • Baby Powder 11 of 12
    Baby Powder
My own trick for removing sand after a beach trip. Towel off, dust on some baby powder, and brush away = easy sand removal.
  • Wet Wipes 12 of 12
    Wet Wipes
Ice cream, popsicles, sno cones, watermelon, slushies and more are great treats in the heat. But, they make a mess! Keep some wet wipes on hand to clean up. These are required in my family!

What else would you add to a summertime emergency kit?
