The Taylor Swift Speak Now album is available today and has everyone buzzing about who each song is about.
With Taylor Swift’s propensity to write her songs from personal experience, every tune on the Taylor Swift Speak Now album’s track list is an ode to an ex-boyfriend, an almost boyfriend, someone who was mean, a girl that got in the way of a relationship… or Kanye West… among other subjects.
Who is each song about on the Taylor Swift Speak Now album, and how much reading in to each song’s lyrics are her fans going to do?
In an interview with Yahoo! Music, Taylor Swift spills the beans about some of the songs on the Speak Nowalbum, but really, she’s going to keep you guessing on who most of the songs are about… whether they’re famous folks or not.
Swift explains, “Every single song is like a road map to what that relationship stood for, with little markers that maybe everyone won’t know, but there are things that were little nuances of the relationship, little hints. And every single song is like that. Everyone will know, so I don’t really have to send out e-mails on this one.”
For example, Taylor Swift “Mine” lyrics talk about a guy who wants to take their relationship to the next level. Is it about Glee’s Cory Monteith?
Taylor Swift spills: “This is a situation where a guy that I just barely knew put his arm around me by the water, and I saw the entire relationship flash before my eyes, almost like a weird science-fiction movie. After I wrote the song, things sort of fell apart, as things so often do. And I hadn’t talked to him in a couple months. And the song came out, and that day, I got an e-mail from him. And I was like, ‘Yes!’ Because that one was sort of half-confession and half-prediction or projection of what I saw.”
“Back to December” lyrics talk about apologizing to an ex-boyfriend, and all signs point to it being about Taylor Lautner.
Taylor Swift “The Story of Us” lyrics talk about meeting up with an ex at an awards show, and the “terribly, heartbreakingly awkward” silent war between the two. And we’re guessing… Joe Jonas?
“Innocent,” as we know, is about Kanye West, and that whole VMA Awards fracas.
“Dear John” is rumored to be about John Mayer, which I still find so yucky….
And how about Taylor Swift’s “Better Than Revenge” lyrics? This looks like a clear shout out to Camilla Belle, who Joe Jonas dumped Swift for. Check out the Better Than Revenge lyrics: “She’s an actress/But she’s better known for the things that she does on the mattress.”
Clearly, Taylor Swift isn’t pulling any punches here.
