Amber Portwood landed herself a reputation for having a bit of a temper problem after she attacked Gary Shirley, the father of her daughter, Leah, on the September 28th episode of Teen Mom.
Since the incident, Amber and Gary have been going to couples counseling sessions, and Amber says, “I haven’t hit him since that fight.” It sounds like she sees this as some sort of personal accomplishment.
Amber adds that it was tough for her to watch herself explode like that on TV, and said, “When I see myself in that position, it really opens my eyes,…I want to stop it, because I don’t want to be like that.”
Portwood and her counselor are supposedly working on ways to control her anger management issues so that she doesn’t lash out at Shirley, or anyone else for that matter, again. She realizes that what she did to Gary wasn’t right, and she wants to teach her daughter that people shouldn’t act like that.
As far as her relationship and future with Gary goes, Amber says, “I do love this man…but if we keep fighting then we can’t move forward.”
Translation: If she beats up Gary again, he’s running for the hills.
