Teen Mom’s Amber Portwood definitely doesn’t have a fairy tale love life. First she attacked the father of her baby, Gary Shirley, and then reports came out that she was dating a registered sex offender. The man turned out to be just your run-of-the-mill law breaker, but he’s still not exactly what I would consider to be a great catch.
Amber and Gary have been in couples counseling for a few months, and now it looks as though they are ready to take their relationship seriously. Gary’s mother, Carol Zizak reports that, “They just bought each other new rings as a sign of their commitment.” She also adds, “They’re promise rings where they’re promising to themselves that they’re going to work on their relationship, not date anyone else, and have a future for Leah.”
I’m hoping that the rings also symbolize Amber doing her best not to hit or kick Gary, but I’m not holding my breath on that one.
Though Amber hasn’t exactly been a role-model girlfriend to her son, Gary’s mom still seems quite fond of her. She says, “Amber is a very sweet girl and she’s had a tough childhood. But she is genuine…I know Amber and I know she can get angry, but I also know she loves Gary and Gary loves her.”
Carol also says that she thinks that Amber needs to be “mothered” and that is what she is trying to do for her. I guess the big question is who is mothering Amber’s daughter, Leah, if her own mom still needs to be parented? Isn’t Amber kind of forced to grow up and try and act like a mature adult now that she has a child?
Something tells me that Amber and Gary’s reconciliation isn’t going to last too long.
