She’s only been engaged for a short time, but already The Bachelorette star Emily Maynard is wholeheartedly entwining her life with that of her fiance, Jef Holm.
Last week, the couple traveled to the African country of Ghana as part of Jef’s work with his PeopleWater business. The bottled-water manufacturer donates clean water to underserved areas for each bottle sold.
“@EmilyMaynard & I are going to Africa to help change people’s lives,” he tweeted right before they left. “I couldn’t love her more. She’s my best friend.”
The couple went to the northern region of the country to look at two new water wells dug by PeopleWater workers. They also took some time to tour some of the area’s sights, such as Elmina Castle, where Jef took a lovely picture of Emily by the castle wall.
All this adds up to very good news not just for Emily, but also for her sweet daughter, Ricki!
Children learn from their parents’ example, and seeing her mother reaching out to helping less fortunate people will have a lasting impression on Ricki. As she gets older, perhaps she’ll be inspired to join a charity like PeopleWater – or even start one herself.
The other benefit for Ricki is the promise of an even happier family life than she enjoys now. Emily is a devoted mom, and she made sure to choose a suitor who was as committed to her daughter as he was to her.
Once this trip is over, Jef plans to pack up and move from his Utah home to Emily’s hometown of Charlotte, North Carolina. He’s said he wants to combine his life with hers and Ricki’s, getting to know them better before the wedding and then moving into Emily’s house once they’re married.
True, it’s still a long way to go before the wedding rings are on. But all signs point to a happy ending for Emily, Ricki and Jef – and to a life of service to those who need the basics of living.
