The Biggest Loser's Allison Sweeney on Being a Working MomErin Blakeley
It’s the elusive struggle of the working mom: how do you balance the job you love with raising young children? Hollywood stars from Jennifer Lopez to Maggie Gyllenhaal have recently come clean about the difficulty of maintaining their careers while raising families. Kate Gosselin’s choices, no matter what we may think of them, also very much represent this struggle.
There is no perfect answer. But actress Allison Sweeney, mother to Ben, 4, and Megan 1 and the mother featured on the cover of this month’s issue of Working Mother, has one suggestion: forget about trying to strike a perfect balance each day.
“It’s hard to strike that 50-50 mark each day, but if I look at a whole week or month, I feel that overall I get to spend a lot of time with my children,” she tells Working Mother. The Days of Our Lives veteran–she has been playing the part of Sami Brady for 17 years– is also the host of The Biggest Loser, so between working two jobs and raising her family, she knows a thing or two about work-life balance.
“When I’m with [my kids], I give them my full attention. When I go to work, I give work my full attention and commitment. Everyone has doubts occasionally, but its important to know you’re doing the best you can. And if you regret a decision, make a different choice next time.”
