A few weeks ago after Alicia Silverstone posted a video of her pre-chewing her child’s food and then feeding it to him mouth-to-mouth, it basically caused an uproar among the mommy bloggers and parents everywhere who thought Alicia’s unconventional feeding method should have been kept to herself.

While I too had a difficult time holding my lunch down while watching the YouTube video for the first time, I thought, why is she posting this video on the internet? Why is Alicia wanting people to see this? Why is she all of a sudden teaching parents how to feed their children when this unorthodox method has supposedly been happening for thousands of years now?

With all the hoopla that surrounded her video, more and more details were revealed about Alicia’s supposed organic, good-for-you non-toxic lifestyle, with articles directing us to her website, The Kind Life. There, you’ll find eco- and environmentally friendly products approved and suggested by the celebrity mom along with recipes, style tips and food recommendations (and giveaways) that Alicia is helping sponsor. Oh, and there’s also a link to where you can buy her book on Amazon.


While Alicia hasn’t been doing much when it comes to her movie career, she has been bringing in a supplementary income as a “celebrity mom,” just like many other Hollywood moms in her league, including Jessica Alba, Tori Spelling, Alyson Hannigan and more. So the baby feeding video was Alicia’s way of getting your attention and redirecting you to her website. And you know what, it worked.

So while we’ve been checking out their books, buying the Pampers they are helping endorse and buying the cute clothes from their family-inspired kids’ lines, these celebrity moms have been making a business… out of being a mom.
