Buddy Holly was only 22, Richie Valens only 17, and J.P. “The Big Bopper” Richardson was 28. Buddy Holly left behind a pregnant wife. Such loss at such a young age, which is why Don McLean called this day “The Day the Music Died” in his song “American Pie.”
Waylon Jennings was supposed to be on that flight, but gave up his seat. What a life-altering decision.
