The Duggars Are Trying for Another Baby!Shana Aborn
They’re still counting!
The Duggar family, made famous in the TLC show 19 Kids and Counting, told the Today show this morning that they’re hoping – and trying – for another baby.
“We would love more if the Lord saw fit to give us more,” said mom Michelle.
Dad Jim Bob added, “We really consider each child a gift from God. And each of our children are glad to be here. Aren’t you, guys? They love their brothers and sisters.”
Asked by Savannah Guthrie whether they had any baby news to announce, Michelle said, “Not that I know of. We would love to, but we don’t today.”
Jim Bob said with a smile, “It is fun trying, though!”
As fans of the show know, the Duggars are conservative Christians who believe that only God should determine the size of a family. Michelle’s motto is, “Saying there are too many children is like saying there are too many flowers.” Since their marriage, they’ve gone on to have 19 surviving children, ranging in age from 24 to nearly 3, all with “J” names.
Their 20th baby, a girl they named Jubilee, was stillborn last December. Michelle also suffered a miscarriage early in their marriage, even though she was taking contraceptives. It was then the couple decided to go off birth control permanently – a decision that has earned them both praise and criticism.
Michelle will be 46 next month, and she realizes that her dream of having more children may be ending soon. “I think it will be a sad day for me whenever I know that we’re not able to have any more,” she said. “But we’ll look forward to grandbabies. We’re definitely enjoying the ones we’ve got right now. So, hopefully, we won’t have that empty-nest syndrome.”
That’s not very likely, considering that Michelle and Jim Bob already have two grandchildren by their oldest son, Josh. And even if their other children have only one child each, that still adds up to a lot of little ones running around Grandma’s house.
What do you think? Will the Duggars add another baby or two before God decides they’re done?
