The Royal Wedding festivities seem to be a bit of a double effort. There’s the formal traditional festivities put on for the public and the conservative elder royals and there’s the more casual laid-back festivities put on for the younger generation.
The merging of the generations can easily be seen when it comes to the cakes that the couple selected for the Queen’s Wedding Reception this morning.

The traditional cake was a multi-tiered fruitcake with cream and white piping that was designed by British baker Fiona Cairns.
For guests that preferred something other than the fruit cake, William requested his very own sweet treat – a multi-tiered chocolate biscuit cake commissioned from biscuit maker McVities – based on a recipe he enjoyed as a child. The square three-tiered cake was a fantastic modern twist on the wedding cake.
