Blair, meet Probst!
The cast of the new Survivor: Philippines was announced this morning, and among them is a face familiar to anyone who grew up on ’80s sitcoms: Lisa Whelchel of The Facts of Life.
In CBS’s preview video, Lisa reveals that she’s a huge Survivor fan who used social media to persuade the producers to bring her aboard. She made an audition video on her iPhone, tweeted it and urged her followers to make it viral.
“It was another one of my brilliant ideas!” jokes Lisa, quoting her old FOL line.
Anyone who remembers the classic sitcom would know that Blair Warner would never voluntarily live on a tropical Asian beach with a bunch of strangers – and no phone or shower! But is Lisa up to the task?Lisa, now 49, is a mom of three and a committed Christian who has written a number of books on Biblically-based parenting. (She’s come under fire for her pro-spanking views.) Will her faith and values be at odds with the show’s “Outplay, Outwit, Outlast” philosophy? Even players who consider themselves loyal and truthful have resorted to lying and backstabbing to get ahead.
It’ll be interesting to watch her strategy – and to see how well she gets along with players such as baseball star Jeff Kent, “troublemaker” Sarah, pageant girl Katie, hunky engineer Peter, seminarian/Army reservist Roxanne and tattoo enthusiast Zane. There’s also a genuine survivor in the mix – Artis, who’s beaten cancer! Plus, three former competitors will be given a second chance after illness or injury forced them out of their original games.
Survivor: Philippines premieres September 19. Can’t wait!
