You have to be careful about every little thing you say or do when you’re a celebrity. Even the most casual remark can be misinterpreted, and if you happen to show up to an event without your significant other, the split rumors fly within hours.
Jennifer Lopez found herself having to explain herself when gossip sites jumped on a quote she gave to Redbook. She told the magazine that she felt “sad and depressed” for a time after giving birth to her twins, Max and Emme. Immediately, the headlines trumpeted “Postpartum Depression!” As if that weren’t enough, buzz had it that she was looking to adopt a baby with her new boyfriend, Casper Smart.
On The Ellen DeGeneres Show today, J. Lo puts those rumors to rest once and for all. “I know I’m being misquoted in the press a lot,” she says (as reported in Us). “[They say that] I want to adopt and that I was depressed when I had babies – none of that’s true.”
She goes on to say that playing an adoptive mother in her new film, What to Expect When You’re Expecting, gave her a better understanding of why parents want to adopt children.
And the depression? She says it was actually the “baby blues,” a short-lived and far less serious phenomenon that occurs as a result of the drop in hormone levels after delivery. Jennifer recalls reading what the famous pregnancy guide had to say on the subject, “[T]hey’re like, ‘You might be feeling very emotional today.’ I said, ‘Yes, I am. That’s what’s happening to me right now.’ ”
