Hard as it may be to believe, the maternity ward at Lenox Hill Hospital wasn’t created specifically for the birth of Blue Ivy Carter. In fact, thousands of moms besides Beyonce have gone to the Manhattan facility to have their babies – including some other well-known names.
30 Rock‘s funny ladies Tina Fey and Jane Krakowski both gave birth at Lenox Hill (Tina had both her daughters there; Jane has a son) with considerably less fanfare than Bey’s delivery.
They shared their experiences with Matt Lauer – whose three children are also Lenox alums – on the Today show this morning, joking about their lack of privileges during their time in the maternity wing.
“My celebrity treatment at Lenox Hill involved taking a group breastfeeding class in a closet!” said Tina, whose second daughter Penelope was born last August. Laughing, Jane agreed.
No million-dollar birthing suite for Liz Lemon, either. “It’s a New York City hospital room, there’s like an ATM machine in the corner,” she said. “It’s not fancy.”
But Tina had nothing but praise for Lenox Hill’s nurses, which prompted Matt to suggest that she was “sucking up” to the staff in preparation for Baby #3.
“No!” she cried. It was a hard enough decision to have a second child, she added.
“Does that mean the store is closed?” asked the host.
“The store has been burned down!” was Tina’s snappy answer.
Jane, whose son Bennett is 9 months old, says, motherhood is “the best thing ever. It’s just awesome,” even though she admitted to battling a bug she caught from her baby. She and Tina swap mom-stories and share baby pictures on the set.
Looking fabulous post-pregnancy, both actresses seem to have adjusted well to the heartache of not getting the Lenox Hill VIP treatment.
Maybe they should use a surrogate next time?
