Former U.S. House Majority Leader Tom DeLay was a powerful and feared lawmaker but today he was on his way to prison. DeLay was sentenced to three years in prison on Monday for trying to influence elections.
In November, a jury convicted Tom DeLay on charges of money laundering and conspiracy to commit money laundering.
According to Huffington Post reports that Tom DeLay will still be free for many months or even years because of appeals. The former Congressman still claims he did nothing wrong. DeLay says he “did nothing wrong, the prosecution was politically motivated and that he never intended to break the law.”
At the sentencing hearing, DeLay made a speech to the judge, saying, “I can’t be remorseful for something I don’t think I did.”
