Sadly, Hollywood icon Toni Curtis died overnight of cardiac arrest. Curtis was 85.
Tony Curtis cut his teeth on films of the 1950s, but is probably best known for 1959’s Some Like It Hot, 1965’s The Great Race, and 1960’s Spartacus. Curtis was nominated for an Oscar for his role in 1958’s The Defiant Ones.
Personally, Tony Curtis was married six times, first to actress Janet Leigh – they had two daughters, actresses Jamie Lee Curtis and Kelly Curtis. Curtis also had children with his other wives: two daughters with Christine Kaufmann; and a son, Benjamin Curtis, with Leslie Allen. Curtis’ son Nicholas died at age 23 of a heroin overdose in 1994.
Curtis had told Esquire in 2006: “Eighty f—ing years old. I don’t feel any different now than I did when I was 30. Dying, I just don’t feel like it.”
Tony Curtis was hospitalized in July after he had trouble breathing.
