The birth of a baby is an awesome, emotional, life-changing experience.
It can also be funny as heck, depending on the family’s personality and the circumstances. I love to brag that while I was in labor with my first child, I spent the night watching Rosemary’s Baby.
But that little anecdote is nothing compared to the hilarious doings that went on when Kate Hudson gave birth to son Bingham in the summer of 2011. Us Weekly reports that the actress told her story during a recent appearance on Ellen.
Naturally, most of the wackiness was courtesy of mom Goldie Hawn. Kate says that when she called her mother to tell her labor had started, the iconic comedienne asked whether she had enough time to take a swim before meeting her at the hospital.
From there, things just got crazier. Goldie arrived with an appetite and chowed down on pizza and Doritos in front of Kate, who of course couldn’t eat before the baby was born.
“She wants to be in control of everything,” Kate told Ellen DeGeneres. “She puts on these reading glasses that have headlights on them. So now my mom – I’m looking up – I have my doctor and my mom kind of looking over me with these headlights.”
But wait – there’s more!
Goldie suggested an…um…unusual technique to help with the delivery. “She brings a magnolia flower. She brings this large magnolia,” Kate recalled. “And she starts to do visualizations with me. She’s going, ‘Imagine your va-jay-jay as a large magnolia flower blossoming.’
“And I’m like, ‘Mom, I don’t want to imagine anything on my body that big…ever!’”
Her fiance, Matt Bellamy, added to the hilarity by trying to film the big moment with his flipcam as Goldie looked on and fussed.
“It really was a Woody Allen film!” Kate laughed.
I’m not sure even the Woodman could come up with a scene like that! But what a great story to share with Bing when he’s older (except, perhaps, for the “va-jay-jay” part).
What about you? Have any great birth stories to share?
