Tura Satana, the star of Russ Meyer’s 1965 cult movie Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! passed away Friday evening. The cult movie is one of the most successful cult films of all time and Satana is the queen of the cult film because she is the main star of the movie.
In Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! Satana played Varla, the leader of a gang of go-go dancers who kidnap a couple, murder the boyfriend and force the girlfriend to follow them on further lawless adventures.
Besides Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill! Tura Satana appeared in many movies and TV shows. Satana appeared in Billy Wilder’s 1963 film Irma la Douce and turned down a proposal of marriage from Elvis Presley!
Tura said of her role in the cult film, “A woman, like my character, was able to show the male species that we’re not helpless and not entirely dependent on them. People picked up on the fact that women could be gorgeous and sexy and still kick a—.”
So many people are devoted to the cult movie Faster Pussycat Kill Kill! Pee-wee Herman recently told a Philadelphia newspaper that his new movie may have some biker chicks like Varla in it. Pee-Wee said, “I’m not sure, quite yet, what it’s going to be. … although I’ve been greatly influenced by Russ Meyer’s film Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!”
Tura Satana passed away in Reno, Nevada and leaves behind two grown children.
