The University of Massachusetts is mourning the loss of their beloved band director George N Parks who died unexpectedly yesterday.
Parks was an award-winning professor and director of the University of Massachusetts Minutemen Marching Band. He suffered an apparent heart attack while traveling with the band to the UMass / University of Michigan football game.
He leaves behind his wife, Jeanne, and two children, Michael and Kathryn.
“This is an extraordinary loss,” said UMass Chancellor Robert Holub says in a statement. “George’s devotion to excellence, his creativity and his passion for teaching inspired us all and shaped the lives of thousands of students during the three decades that he directed The Power and Class of New England. Truly, he represented the best of UMass.”
Our deepest condolences go out to the Parks’ family, his students, friends, and UMass faculty.
