UT Campus On Lock-Down After Shooting

The University of Texas (UT) Campus in Austin is officially on lock-down after a gunman entered the Perry-Castaneda Library today and reportedly shot himself. The President of the University, Bill Powers, has also called off all student classes for the afternoon.

Powers emailed his students and said, “The armed suspect is dead. No other injuries have been reported.” He also added, “I want you to know that the campus remains locked down. All students, faculty, staff and visitors should stay indoors and continue to follow instructions (from loudspeakers, email, text messages and uniformed police officers). You will be notified when the situation becomes stable.”

The shooting took place somewhere between 8:00am and 8:30am this morning, and so far no other injuries or fatalities have been reported. Students, faculty, and staff were notified of the emergency through sirens, text messages, and online. The campus will remain on lock-down until further notice.
