Venus Williams' US Open Outfit: Bad Example For Girls?

Venus Williams is making the news again, and not for tennis, either. While the tennis star should be getting attention for her most recent US Open win, beating Israel’s Shahar Peer, it seems people would rather talk about her outfit. Williams (who has a fashion degree and once had a fashion line, by the way) is making waves (or “bursts,” we should say) for her most recent tennis court attire, this time wearing a very short pink tank top emblazoned with crystals.

People are saying Williams’ US Open outfit was too skimpy for the courts, and this isn’t the first time she has upset her critics, either.

Back in May, Williams showed up to Wimbeldon in a skimpy white dress that some people deemed reminiscent of Tina Turner. That came weeks after she played in the French Open in a lacy number that had mouths running.

But Williams is proud of her fashion sense. And she should be: She used to have a clothing line with the now-defunct Steve and Barry’s Sports store, owns her own interior design firm, and holds a degree in Fashion from the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale. Regarding her latest apparel choice (view the pictures here), she said: “This outfit was supposed to be about New York. It’s like bursts of fireworks.”

What do you think of Venus’ outfit? Do you think it’s appropriate for the US Open, or should she have chosen something more conservative?
