Viola Davis: I'm Raising a Strong Little Girl!

Viola Davis and husband Julius Tennon.

Kids’ personalities tend to come out early in life – and Viola Davis‘s little girl is showing that she’s a force to be reckoned with!

Viola and her husband, Julius Tennon, adopted their daughter, Genesis, last year. Now Genesis is a bright toddler who’s delighted to tell people exactly who she is.

“She loves telling people her name,” the Oscar-nominated actress tells Us Weekly. “It’s a big one, because at first she didn’t do that. She’s 2, so now when people say, ‘What is your name?’, she says, ‘My name is Genesis!’ And she screams it! She’s proud of her name!”

But Genesis’s attitude can also be attributed to her upbringing. Viola is determined that her daughter will have the confidence and self-pride she herself never had as a girl. “I’m starting early to instill in her a strong sense and love of self, which wasn’t given to me.”

And guys had better beware of going too fast too soon with young Ms. Tennon.

“When she plays with the little boys who want to kiss her, she slaps them and says, ‘No!’ ” says Viola. “So that’s good!”

Since becoming a mom last year at 43, the actress’s life has changed immeasurably for the better. She once said in an interview, “I feel like a star at home because she loves me so much. I mean, it’s a red carpet every day. It’s wonderful!”

Who knows? In a few years, it may be Genesis who walks the red carpet.
