Did Madonna buy Wallis Simpson's jewelry?

King Edward VIII abdicated the throne and was expelled from his family for marrying American commoner Wallis Simpson, but she clearly never gave up her taste for the finer things in life. That became evident at the auction of her jewelry by Sotheby’s in London yesterday, where the panther bracelet pictured went for a stunning £4.5million. Madonna was rumored to be interested in it – did the mom of three buy it?

We may have to wait and see. The buyer was anonymous for this piece, one of 19 auctioned off that easily outdrew the pre-auction estimate of £3 million.

Here’s some photos of other Wallis Simpson jewels.

What do you think – do you like this piece? How much would you spend on a piece of jewelry (if you were rich beyond imagination, of course)?
