Watch Modern Family’s Cam and Mitchell kiss in this season 2 episode 2 “The Kiss” video clip.
After much anticipation, Modern Family’s gay couple finally express their love with a kiss and well… what’s the big deal, really?
The big deal is that Mitchell has never been comfortable with public displays of affection and you’ll note from the first episode of Modern Family that his dad always announces himself (loudly) before walking into a room just to make sure he doesn’t see them kiss.
It’s not like we haven’t seen other loving displays of affection between Cameron and Mitchell even the smallest of touches and close moments with their baby Lily clue viewers in that this is a loving couple.
Still, fans asked for the kiss. And they got it, though the writers/creators said it was always planned that a kiss would be part of the storyline.
Modern Family fans wanted it so bad that a “Let Cam & Mitchell kiss on Modern Family!” Facebook page was created after the couple simply hugged during an airport scene last season.
Eric Stonestreet, who won an Emmy for playing Cam, noted that “It’s nice that people care so much, but it kind of bums me out in that now it looks like we’re doing something because somebody begged us to or pressured us to. The [writers] wanted to tell a good story and not just make a moment out of it. It should just be normal, natural, and sweet, and done in a really great way, which is how they’re doing it.”
