What a Difference a Year Makes! Katie Holmes Now and Then (Photos)

Is that really the same woman?

The photo on the left is Katie Holmes as she appeared almost exactly a year ago (January 13 of ’12). On the right, a picture of her heading to a performance of her Broadway show.

Then, Katie appeared tired and unhappy. More often than not, cameras caught her with her head down, a strained half-smile on her lips. Her stance was closed off; she even held her coat shut as if trying to hide.

Was she already making plans to leave Tom Cruise at this point? Or was she just hanging in there, playing the devoted wife and trying not to get bogged down in what-ifs?

Whatever the truth is, she ended 2012 a much different person than when she began: not just divorced, but also busier, happier, more relaxed and with new plans and projects in the works.

Have a look at the new pictures of her and see what you think.  Has Katie blossomed as an independent woman?
