At first glance, they couldn’t be more different.
Suri Cruise is the daughter of one of the most high-power couples in Hollywood (a coupling that turned into one of the most high-profile divorces). She lives a life of designer clothes, extravagant vacations and constant paparazzi attention.
Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson is the daughter of a 300-pound at-home mom and her miner boyfriend. She lives a life of coupon clipping, dining on roadkill and performing in regional beauty pageants. She’s also a newly crowned TV star, thanks to the wildly popular TLC show Here Comes Honey Boo Boo.
But the Manhattan private-school student and the McIntyre, GA, junior redneck have more in common than you might think.
They’re both around the same age; Suri turned 6 this spring (with a Broadway show), and Alana just celebrated her 7th birthday (with a Silly String battle). They both became famous through no real effort of their own; Suri happens to be the daughter of superstars Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, while Honey Boo Boo was first seen on Toddlers & Tiaras when viewers couldn’t get enough of her sassy personality. (Catchphrases “A dollar makes me holla’!” and “You better redneckognize!” are becoming part of our national vocabulary.)
Their childhoods are both vastly different from that of the average American kid. Suri enjoys privileges most children can only dream of, thanks to her mom’s earnings and the $400,000 she’ll be receiving in child support annually until she turns 18. Alana literally lives “on the other side of the tracks” (a train runs right next to her small rural house) with her parents, three stepsisters and baby niece. To say they live simply is a charitable understatement, and the $2,000-$4,000 the family reportedly earns per episode isn’t going to bump them up to the 1%.
When they grow up, perhaps Suri and Alana will come to see how unique their upbringings were – and won’t it be interesting to see how they raise their own children?
We found lots more similarities between the two girls. Check them out here – and you better Sureckognize!
