At first glance, they couldn’t be more different.
Suri Cruise is the daughter of one of the most high-power couples in Hollywood (a coupling that turned into one of the most high-profile divorces). She lives a life of designer clothes, extravagant vacations and constant paparazzi attention.
Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson is the daughter of a 300-pound at-home mom and her miner boyfriend. She lives a life of coupon clipping, dining on roadkill and performing in regional beauty pageants. She’s also a newly crowned TV star, thanks to the wildly popular TLC show Here Comes Honey Boo Boo.
But the Manhattan private-school student and the McIntyre, GA, junior redneck have more in common than you might think.
They’re both around the same age; Suri turned 6 this spring (with a Broadway show), and Alana just celebrated her 7th birthday (with a Silly String battle). They both became famous through no real effort of their own; Suri happens to be the daughter of superstars Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, while Honey Boo Boo was first seen on Toddlers & Tiaras when viewers couldn’t get enough of her sassy personality. (Catchphrases “A dollar makes me holla’!” and “You better redneckognize!” are becoming part of our national vocabulary.)
Their childhoods are both vastly different from that of the average American kid. Suri enjoys privileges most children can only dream of, thanks to her mom’s earnings and the $400,000 she’ll be receiving in child support annually until she turns 18. Alana literally lives “on the other side of the tracks” (a train runs right next to her small rural house) with her parents, three stepsisters and baby niece. To say they live simply is a charitable understatement, and the $2,000-$4,000 the family reportedly earns per episode isn’t going to bump them up to the 1%.
When they grow up, perhaps Suri and Alana will come to see how unique their upbringings were – and won’t it be interesting to see how they raise their own children?
We found lots more similarities between the two girls. Check them out here – and you better Sureckognize!
They’re both adorable – and wildly popular 1 of 7One is a shy girl living a privileged Hollywood lifestyle. The other is a sassy Southern girl who's proud of her redneck ways. But both are cute grade-schoolers who grab headlines everywhere they go.
Which major televised event got lower ratings than "Honey Boo Boo"?
They have famous moms who adore them 2 of 7Katie Holmes is rarely seen without her daughter by her side, and she always puts Suri first. Even her divorce was done out of concern for her child's upbringing. And whatever you may say about coupon queen June Shannon - who's become almost as famous as her daughter - you can't say she doesn't care about her children. She recently said, "I am a parent first and foremost; I'm also their best friend and they're able to come to me about situations."
Here's what else Mama June says about her family.
They both have stepsiblings 3 of 7Neither Suri nor Alana comes from a traditional Norman Rockwell family. Isabella and Connor Cruise are Suri's stepsiblings from dad Tom Cruise's marriage to Nicole Kidman, while Anna ("Chickadee"), Jessica ("Chubbs") and Lauryn ("Pumpkin") are the daughters of Mama June's previous relationships.

They have fun with their folks 4 of 7Maybe rolling in mud at the Summer Redneck Games and shooting through a makeshift lawn water slide with her sisters isn't quite as ritzy as sleeping in the Cinderella suite at Disney World or visiting Manhattan's zoos and art galleries. So what? At the end of the day, both girls are smiling.
Here's what else Suri did in Disney World.
They both love getting fancy 5 of 7Whether it's sparkly shoes and a princess gown (as Suri does here) or the wiglets and spangled dresses Alana wears in glitz pageants, these girls love dressing up - and have their own sense of style.
Remember Honey Boo Boo when she starred in "Toddlers and Tiaras"?
They both love their sweets! 6 of 7Honey Boo Boo and Suri won't go down in history as famous health-food promoters. Suri often gets treated to ice cream and other yummies (Tom Cruise's Scientology religion reportedly forbids saying "no" to a child), and Alana's "Go-Go Juice" (a mixture of Red Bull and Mountain Dew) helps keep her perky at pageants.
June speaks out about Go-Go Juice.
They both want a dog! 7 of 7Like most kids, Suri and Alana love animals. Even though Glitzy the Pig proved to be more than Mama June could handle, recent photos of Honey Boo Boo cuddling a puppy hint that there may be a new family member soon. As for Suri, her dog dreams will have to wait. Back in July, Suri fell in love with a pup in a store, but Katie's "no" left the girl in tears.
