Which "Teen Moms" Were Affected by Hurricane Sandy?Shana Aborn
Natural disasters are the universal leveler. An earthquake, flood or hurricane doesn’t care what your income level is, how much you’ve accomplished or how famous you are.
Hurricane Sandy affected thousands of families from all walks of life – including some very well-known ones. Among them were some of the stars of the Teen Mom series. How did your favorite cast members fare? Read on:
Kailyn Lowry: Living in eastern Pennsylvania, Kail was the Teen Mom most severely affected. She lost all the power in her home around 8:00 last night, and the battery in her one small flashlight died. Fortunately, Kail has plenty of candles, since she’s a rep for the Scentsy mail-order company. “At least my house smells delish with all these candles burning,” she tweeted.
She and fiance Javi Marroquin still have power in their laptop, which they used to let Kail’s son, Isaac, watch Finding Nemo in the morning. By mid-afternoon, the couple were still in the dark, with no electricity or hot water. Still, they’re grateful it wasn’t worse. “Sorry for complaining about my electric,” she tweets. “My heart goes out to those who lost everything.”
Leah Calvert: The hurricane affected Leah and her region – but in a different way. Out in her West Virginia hometown, the precipitation was all snow! While Leah cooked up a batch of homemade chicken noodle soup, husband Jeremy went out with twins Aliannah and Aleeah to build a snowman. Their dog Rosco had fun romping in the white stuff, too. This time next year, Leah and Jeremy will be introducing their new baby to his or her first Halloween, with or without snow.
Maci Bookout: The Chattanooga, TN, native was well out of the storm’s path, but she wasn’t too happy with the falling temperatures. “im bored, tired, sad, cold and hungry,” she tweeted yesterday. “im overrrr it today. #missmyfriends #hatecoldweather.” But she did take time to retweet some followers’ good wishes to those who had more to worry about than a little chill. “My prayers are with those affected by the east coast hurricane,” was one. “Stay positive and stay strong.”
Chelsea Houska: Like Maci, Chelsea was too far from the action to be affected; the North Dakota native was in Omaha on Sunday for a Wiz Khalifa concert (where she met up with Teen Mom pal Farrah Abraham). But Hurricane Sandy may put a crimp in her plans yet: She’s scheduled to fly to New York on Thursday. “Maybe my trip [will] get rescheduled,” she tweeted to a friend.
Catelynn Lowell: While the East Coast starts its cleanup, the ordeal is only just beginning for the TM star. She’s in Michigan, where the path of Sandy is brushing by. “Well #HurricaneSandy is hitting us here in Detroit,” she tweeted earlier today. “High winds like HIGH winds and lots of rain. Tomorrow probably worse.” Hope she and fiance Tyler Baltierra weather the storm with no problems.
Jenelle Evans: Living near Myrtle Beach, NC, Jenelle knows what it’s like when a major storm approaches a coastal town. She retweeted several pictures of the destruction in Seaside Heights, NJ. But she seems optimistic – if perhaps a little too cheery – about her upcoming trip to Manhattan. “Tanning, check. Zebra suitcases, check. Shopping, almost done…” she tweeted yesterday. “NYC in a couple of days with @courtyb11 <3.”
Just a thought, ladies – if your New York trip does go on as scheduled, how about donating some of your appearance fees to the relief efforts?
