Who Is James J. Lee - The Discovery Building Hostage Taker?

James j LeeJames J. Lee, the 43 year old gunman who held at least 3 people hostage at the Discovery Communications building in Silver Spring, Md has been shot and killed by police.  So who exactly is James J. Lee?

He Has Protested At Discovery Communications Before

James J. Lee runs and organization called Save The Planet Protest and has protested at the Discovery Communications Building.  Earlier this week he was arrested for littering and disorderly conduct. The littering charge may have stemmed from Lee reportedly throwing money at people on the street to get them to gather around his protest site.

Claims the ‘World Does Not Need Humans’

In a document recently sent to The Discovery Channel and posted on his MySpace page, Lee demands; “All programs on Discovery Health-TLC must stop encouraging the birth of any more parasitic human infants and the false heroics behind those actions. In those programs’ places, programs encouraging human sterilization and infertility must be pushed. All former pro-birth programs must now push in the direction of stopping human birth, not encouraging it.”  He then goes on to state that “Saving the Planet means saving what’s left of the non-human Wildlife by decreasing the Human population. That means stopping the human race from breeding any more disgusting human babies! You’re the media, you can reach enough people. It’s your resposibility because you reach so many minds!!!”

Has Spent Thousands To Protest

It is reported that Lee has spent thousands of dollars in publications such as Express to advertise his protest plans as well as hiring homeless people to increase his presence in from of TLC’s headquarters in Silver Springs, MD.

He Pitched His Own Show To Discovery

In an email that msnbc.com retrieved, Lee pitched “an idea for a reality-game show called ‘Race to Save the Planet.'” Lee says contestants “would come from all over to compete with each other and come up with ideas to save the planet. The idea here is to use human inventiveness to save the planet from the environmental destruction it’s facing. People competing can either have completely new ideas on how to save the planet, or they can build on another person’s idea and make that original idea better.”

I’m happy to hear that the hostage situation ended peacefully, with only Lee reportedly being injured.
