Who is Oprah’s sister Patricia… and how did she piece together her connection to Oprah?

Oprah revealed her family secret on Monday’s show, that she has a half-sister named Patricia whom Oprah’s mother, Vernita Lee, gave up for adoption. Oprah was nine and living with her father when Vernita had Patricia.

Oprah, in fact, never even knew her mother was pregnant with Patricia.

Patricia was able to piece together her biological family when she saw Vernita Lee on TV some of the information Vernita talked about coincided with information Patricia had.

While Patricia was unsuccessful in tracking down Vernita, she did make contact with Oprah’s niece and went through DNA testing to determine they were related.

Who is Oprah’s half sister, Patricia? Here are 5 things about Patricia:

She was born in 1963 in Milwaukee.

Patricia lived in foster homes until she was 7 and was adopted. She said her childhood was “difficult.”

Patricia has two children: Aquarius and Andre. As a single mom, she worked two jobs to make ends meet.

Patricia first tried to find her birth mother at age 20, gave up on the search and then started to look again a few years ago. She was told that her birth mother did not want to meet her.

Patricia finally met her mother on October 25 and on Thanksgiving day, Oprah met her half-sister at her mother’s home in Milwaukee.
