The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has announced its nominee list for 2011 of which only approximately five will actually be inducted. Way to set someone up for disappointment! KISS fans are in an uproar at the band’s ongoing snub, and in their defense, I’m missing the “rock and roll” part of some of the nominees. The list includes nine acts that have been nominated in the past but not inducted: Beastie Boys, Chic, LL Cool J, J. Geils Band, Darlene Love, Laura Nyro, Donna Summer, Joe Tex and Chuck Willis. The newcomers are: Alice Cooper, Bon Jovi, Neil Diamond, Donovan, Dr. John and Tom Waits.
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame CEO Joel Peresman said, “We believe our nominating committee has put forth a list of artists that truly represent the wide variety of music that defines rock and roll.” Wide variety is right!
To be eligible for inclusion this year, the person or band must have released its first single or album at least 25 years prior ago. The names of the inductees will be announced in December. Read more about the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame here.
