Who was Meryl Streep wearing when she won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Comedy-Musical? It wasn’t Versace. It wasn’t Dolce & Gabbana. It wasn’t Chanel. She wore Chris March. Who’s Chris March you may ask?
Well, if you are a Project Runway fan you’ll recognize him right away. He was a contestant on season four who was known for his costume design, once lending his talents to the outrageous Beach Blanket Babylon in San Francisco and for dabbling in drag.
Chris March met the actress through her hair and makeup team. Streep’s people contacted him about a month ago to work on a ensemble for the Golden Globes. “I wanted to faint!” Chris tells PEOPLE about receiving the call. “I have always wanted to design something for someone like that, and it was a great and amazing opportunity.”
After Streep won the award Chris said, “I almost had a heart attack when Colin Farrell read her name. It was very exciting to see her come up on stage wearing a dress that I made with my own two hands,” says Chris. “I thought it made her look tall and thin and comfortable and confident. It looked great!”
