Time Magazine held a big old gala to honor the 100 Most Influential people of the year. Among the list of movers, shakers, politicians and do-gooders was a very funny lady. Amy Poehler made it on the list. At the event, she took the time to honor the people who have been the most influential in her life for the last couple years, not the heads of NBC, not her husband, not her kids, but the two women who take care of them – her nannies.
She wanted to thank the nannies, those people “ … who are watching your children while you are at this event.” Stated that it is due to them, “that (you) get to do what you get to do because there are wonderful people helping at home” adding, “on behalf of every sister and mother and person who stands in your kitchen and helps you love your child, I say thank you — and I celebrate you tonight.” And she gave a shout out to her own two nannies – from Trinidad and Tibet – who watch over her own two sons while she goes and gets to do what she gets to do. It’s so nice to hear someone thank the people who help so much with the actual day to day of these celebrities. Will someone thanking their nannies in an Oscar speech be on the horizon?
