Celine Dion finally named her twins… Eddy and Nelson! But fans want to know why Celine Dion named her twins Eddy and Nelson?
And why did it take so long?
Before you shoot down the names as boring, check out Celine and husband René Angélil’s reasons for naming the twin boys Eddy and Nelson.
Eddy is named for Eddy Marnay, who produced Dion’s first five records. Her rep said that “He was like a father to her. Eddy is a major influence in both Céline and René’s lives.”
Nelson is named after Nelson Mandela, whom Celine met while in South Africa during her Taking Chances Tour. Her rep commented that both Celine and Rene “were impressed by the human being he is.”
As for why it took so long for them to decide on names, Dion told French magazine Gala that they had been “going a little bit crazy trying to decide” – her mother, it seems, wanted them to go with French names, and their son, René-Charles, was hoping for American names.
Dion’s rep added that overall, “Céline and René want their children to be inspired by their names, because they were so inspired by these men.”
