Everyone’s just sooooo psyched over the rumor that Emily Maynard may be the next star of The Bachelorette. What a thrill! What an opportunity! What a chance for this lovely-but-unlucky-in-love lady to find true happiness at last!
What a huge honkin’ mistake!
Look, it’s not like I don’t wish Emily all the best. Of course she deserves happiness after all she’s been through – the tragic death of her fiance, raising her daughter as a young single mom, her time on The Bachelor that ended with a humiliating broken engagement to Brad Womack.
But is she really going to find that bliss by putting herself back on the show and subjecting herself to endless scrutiny and gossip again? Especially now that her daughter Ricki is 6 – old enough to start to understand what’s going on in her mom’s life?
Not that she’s going to listen, but here are some thoughts on why Emily should say no to ABC’s offer and explore other ways to find a husband. A dating site has to be a saner alternative to another round of rose ceremonies!
The show has become a sleazefest 1 of 7The "Bachelor/Bachelorette" shows used to be romantic. Now, as Ben Flajnik has discovered, it's all about the drinking, catfights and outrageous antics. That may be okay for contestants without kids, but Emily has little Ricki to consider.
She might have legal troubles 2 of 7Former "Bachelorette" winner Jesse Csincsak and other contestants have filed a class-action suit against the show's creators, who allegedly have barred them from making promotional deals with other companies. Does Emily really want that kind of headache?
Brad Womack 3 of 7What has two thumbs and broke Emily's heart? THIS guy.
Her PDA will be public 4 of 7If by chance Emily does find true love, she'll be expected to cuddle and snog with the guy in front of the cameras at every opportunity - like newly engaged Ashley Hebert and J.P. Rosenbaum.
She might become a bad girl 5 of 7Vienna Girardi's fairy-tale ending turned into a nightmare when she and Jake Pavelka had an ugly split. Since then, her life has been a series of diva fits, laughable reality-show appearances and more bad relationships.
…or find someone even worse 6 of 7Vienna briefly dated former "Bachelorette" contestant Casey Kahl, who just got arrested for a bar brawl. Clas-SY.
The odds are against her 7 of 7Sure, Trista Sutter got lucky and found the guy of her dreams on "The Bachelorette." But that was only after coming in second on "The Bachelor" - and she's one of just two couples that actually married after the final rose. Is it really worth going through the drama for such a small chance of wedded bliss?
