Actor Jeremy Renner may be following in the footsteps of A-list star Tom Cruise.
Best known for his Oscar-nominated role in The Hurt Locker, Jeremy is cast in Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol with the intention of possibly taking over for Tom.
“It’s a franchise to potentially take over,” Renner told MTV News.
“I can’t predict the future and what they want, but that’s certainly the idea.”
Jeremy, who is 39, wouldn’t elaborate as to whether Tom’s passing of the MI torch would take place in Ghost Protocol or a future film.
Why would Tom pass the torch on such a successful franchise? Is he getting too old for Mission: Impossible?
Tom is 48 so he’s still not too old to continue. Perhaps he wants to spend more time with wife Katie and daughter Suri? Or maybe he’s just moving on to other projects.
“I can’t really go into the details of the script, because that’s still evolving,” Jeremy said. “It’s Tom’s baby. He’s the engine behind the thing. What happens after that, we’ll see.”
Do you think Jeremy will make a good replacement?
