School is almost ready to start, and parents who once worried about entertaining their children all summer long are now concerned about such common woes as grades, tests, classmates, PTA debates…and one particular and very common problem: Lice.
Those tiny pests are actually harmless, but their gross-out factor and their habit of crawling from one head to another are enough to make parents freak at the sight of a child scratching her scalp.
It’s not a subject moms like to discuss, and rare is the parent who comes out and admits she’s treating her kids for lice. That’s why we have to give Kelly Ripa a round of applause for sharing her story on Live! a couple of years ago.
In her usual humorous way, she told Regis Philbin and their millions of followers about the time her daughter picked up the critters during a playdate with a friend. Fortunately, she was able to nip the infestation in the bud with the help of Licenders, a chain of lice-treatment salons specializing in effective, nontoxic products.
That’s one of the benefits of fame – being able to share your experiences and lift the stigma from problems that affect millions. We found other famous mothers who have done the same – some have chronic conditions, while others experienced temporary embarrassments during pregnancy.
