#10: Pebbles
We enter the top 10 with perhaps the cutest baby in cartoon history. Sure, Bamm-Bamm Rubble was cute, too. But he was so … aggressive. With her bright red hair all tied up in a bone, and her gentle goo-goos and ga-gas, Pebbles Flintstone is a doll. At least she was until she entered teenhood and starred on that silly “Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm Show.”
#9: Gus
Cinderella’s mouse with the mostest, Gus is chubby, goofy and the most huggable character in this classic Disney fairy tale. Yes, even more huggable than Prince Charming.
#8: Winnie the Pooh
The Hundred Acre Wood, as portrayed in the Disney cartoons based on A.A. Milne’s stories, is filled with cute characters: Tigger, Roo, Piglet. But it’s Winnie the Pooh – with his rumblies in his tumblies and the sweeter-than-honey voice, as originally created by Sterling Holloway – that will always be the most delightful.
#7: Woodstock
Snoopy is undeniably lovable, but with his Joe Cool attitude, he gets a little too much attention. That’s why Woodstock, the beagle’s bright yellow bird-buddy with the mussed mop of feathers and a tendency to squawk when he appears in animated form, seems even cuter. Because he’s not trying to be.
#6: Cindy Lou Who
“Santy Claus, why? Why are you taking our Christmas tree? Why?” When the Grinch eventually has an epiphany after committing a handful of felonies in How the Grinch Stole Christmas, it’s due in no small part to the charms of little Cindy Lou Who, who was no more than two. I mean, who could watch her bat those eyelashes and not, eventually, decide to carve the roast beast?
#5: Nemo
His stubborn determination, not to mention that one endearingly deficient fin, make audiences repeatedly root for this clown fish, Pixar’s cutest creation so far.
#4: Chilly Willy
As was made clear by entry #20, animated penguins are dang cute – and none are cuter than Chilly Willy, with his perky pom-pom hat and endearing waddle.
#3: Boo Boo
Nearly every sentence he says starts with, “But Yogi…” And, by the way, why is he wearing a bow tie in the middle of Jellystone Park? Doesn’t matter. The whole package makes Boo-Boo cuter than the average bear.
#2: Tweety
“I did! I did taw a puddy tat!” I mean, please. Cartoon character catchphrases don’t come much cuter. Consider Tweety’s humongous baby blues and the fact that he never fails to outsmart Sylvester, and it’s obvious why this tweet wittle biwd proudly swings in the number two spot.
#1: Thumper
The little bunny rabbit who teaches Bambi how to ice-skate is undeniably adorable. Thanks to the voice work of young Peter Behn, he’s also got one of the most infectious cartoon laughs in history. But here’s why he ranks No. 1: In a film that is absolutely wrenching in its depiction of loss, Thumper represents nothing but pure joy.
