Babble Best: Lightweight Strollers

Our five favorite strollers, to go. by Nicole Feliciano

March 19, 2007

Chicco Ct.0.6 (11 lbs) - $75

This uncomplicated yet attractive stroller wins the category. The 11-pound Chicco is extremely portable and easy to maneuver, making it ideal for public transportation. While keeping the cost low, the manufacturer didn't sacrifice safety or comfort -- the Ct0.6 includes a padded 5-point harness and the seat has two positions. As an added bonus, the stroller is available in three trendy colors: tangerine, lime and Sydney blue.

Light-Weight Strollers: Runners-Up

Maclaren Volo (9 lbs) - $110

It's indisputable that Maclaren makes a sturdy and popular stroller. And the Volo is no exception. This stroller is a cinch to close and carry. But there are a few factors that keep this ultra-light (only 9 lbs.) model from the top rating. First, the seat doesn't recline, making napping a challenge for even the groggiest toddler. Second issue? The cost -- anything over $100 is too much to spend on a second stroller.

Inglesina Swift (13 lbs) - $90

On paper, this stroller looks like it's got it all: Fun racing stripes, 4-position backrest, a top-notch safety harness and ample storage underneath the seat. I test-drove the Swift and had a mixed opinion. Though safe and well-appointed, the stroller felt a little stiff and the design came across as a bit fussy, rather than pared down and sleek.

Combi Cosmo ST (12 lbs) - $70

One of the heavier top 5 strollers, the 12-pound Combi is the only lightweight model that will accommodate an infant car seat. It should be noted that the Combi has a 3-point harness and the stroller seems a tad flimsy thanks to the predominantly plastic construction.

Kolcraft Tour Sport (11 lbs) - $40

At $40, this stroller is priced right. The Tour Sport is a workhorse, not a thoroughbred. But the utilitarian Kolcraft stroller will get you and your child from point A to point B in relative comfort thanks, to it's shock absorbing wheels and spongy handles -- there's even a cup holder to stash your java.
