The Catskill Mountains, located about ninety miles north of celebrity-mad Manhattan, has long been known as a place that attracts stars. According to the dark sky finder, however, the region is also excellent for spotting stars of a different kind. Urban families on a star search couldn't ask for a better location than the Mohonk Mountain House. Set amongst 2,200 acres of finely manicured gardens and wilderness trails and adjoining the 6,400 acre Mohonk Preserve, this property has conditions conducive for peaceful nighttime gazing and also sponsors occasional stargazing weekends throughout the year.
