Whether it's satisfying a fickle five-year-old, lightening your summer luggage load or cutting back on laundry, reversible clothes offer many benefits for parents and kids alike. These reversible pieces offer refreshing colors and easy summer wearing with the ability for Superman-esque changes should the occasion (or stray ketchup squirt) arise. While there are options for both genders, girls win out in this category with a number of adorable shifts, rompers and skirts to choose from. — Katie Bayless

Right Bank Babies Reversible Romper - $55
Right Bank Babies easily gets the award for best fabric options. With menswear pinstripes, romantic florals, geometric designs and retro graphics, there's something for every palate. I picked their Reversible Romper, because I was inspired by their picture of a girl pairing the floral romper with argyle tights. But their reversible skirts ($50), dresses ($52.50) and wide leg pants ($55) are equally fashionable — inside and out.

Entertaining Elephants Reversible A-line Jumper - $37.20
It's hard to say what I love more about this reversible jumper - the simple A-line shape, the '60s-style colors or the quality worksmanship. One side of this shift has psychedelic overlapping circles in shades of green, turquoise, mustard and lavender, while the other side features a field of red poppies. A simple tie-string at the neck secures the jumper in place for whatever adventures the remaining summer days bring. Also available in orange and pink prints, but be warned — end-of-season quantities are limited.

Innies 'N Outies Bahari Shirt - $52
The Bahari shirt by Innies 'N Outies gives the fellas a chance to enjoy the benefits of reversible wear. One side sports irregular olive stripes, while the collar reveals the alternate pattern: a green-and-mustard, island-inspired pinstripe. Four retro buttons are begging to be left undone for sand races at the beach. Innies also makes one for the ladies — the Caracol sundress ($59.50), with a delicious color combination of olive, melon and passion fruit. |

Ellie Bellie Kids Reversible Tutus - $45
Although tutus are not your standard everyday wear, I know there are plenty of you out there who have the occasional longing to throw on a frilly skirt and head out into the daily grind. These reversible tutus ($45), featuring a dual-sided waist ribbon, pointed edging and six creative color combinations, are one-size-fits-all, but if you can't fit into other clothes from your childhood, these are probably better left to your pint-sized dancer.

Growables Reversible Boys Cargo Shorts - $39
Instead of cringing every time your tot grows out of another outfit, you can buy clothes that expand along with your child at Growables. Merely re-button the straps of a dress or unroll a pant cuff and voila! — another few months of wear. Their reversible cargo shorts for boys have royal blue on one side, red checks on the other and pockets on both, making them as versatile as they are practical. Girls can try out their swing top ($44) with a ruffled hem, grow-adjustable shoulder straps and a summery floral design. |
