Babble Best: Stroller Bags

Katie Bayless

Whether touring the streets of Paris or just maneuvering through the grocery store parking lot, say adieu to awkwardly hanging your diaper bag off the stroller handlebars. A stroller bag allows you to keep your gear within close reach while leaving your hands free for more important things — like giving the bird to the jerk who does a rolling stop through the intersection you're crossing. These five picks have all the pockets you'll need, with a generous side of style. — Katie Bayless

JJ Cole System Diaper Bags - $70

I don't consider myself an uber-organizer, but this bag makes me want to be one. Available in three color combinations, the sleek design and waterproof exterior of the JJ Cole System bag conceal a multitude of pockets to ensure that everything has its place. From a cell phone pocket and credit card holders to a pacifier pod and padded iPod pouch with earbud pass-thrus, this bag will never leave you digging. My favorite feature is the removable changing pad, which is also easy to take solo, since it has its own pocket to hold changing necessities. With a plush-padded shoulder strap and easy-to-use stroller clips, this is one "System" that's easy to get in place.

Stroller Bags: Runners-up

Petunia Pickle Bottom Touring Tote - $145

My favorite trait of this chic hobo by Petunia Pickle Bottom is its ability to seamlessly transition from park playdates to evening drinks. Available in half a dozen designer fabrics, the PPB Touring Tote can be worn with the short or long shoulder strap, or conveniently hung with the included PPB Valet Stroller Clips. Though seemingly small, the Touring Tote can hold everything I need for a day out, and unlike much of the competition, its narrow shape allows contents to be easily accessed. Carry everything you need – on your shoulder or on the stroller - without sacrificing a bit of style.

Skip Hop Expo - $64

Need a big bag for the trip to the pool? A small bag for a few short errands? There's no need to switch bags with the Skip Hop Expo. This dense poly-canvas bag contains a zippered expansion bottom that nearly doubles the width of the bag. No loose stroller straps to worry about: straps are conveniently and conspicuously attached to the interior of the bag. Its best feature is the pair of narrow top pockets that sandwich the opening to the main interior. Shallow and zippered, they are perfect for quick-reach valuables, like keys and cherry chapstick. With a streamlined appearance and a rugged appeal, this is one bag that dads will dig as much as moms.

Reese Li Lexington - $150

Designer Reese Li used to be in the Army and knows how to kick butt. So do her bags. Available in solid waterproof polyester and patterned laminate exteriors, the twelve pockets and large interior compartment on this bag give you plenty of room to sort and stuff. Attaching to the bag to the stroller requires a quick reconfiguring of the straps that quickly becomes second nature. Lexington too big for your tastes? Try out the smaller but equally stylish Cambridge.

Fleurville Sling Tote - $150

The Fleurville Sling Tote offers one feature that these other bags don't: environmentally friendly materials. Created with Fleurville's unique polyurethane laminate Green-LAM?, this bag offers moisture-repellence, UV-resistance and a long-lasting exterior without the use of environmentally harmful chemicals. In addition to being eco-friendly, the bag is stylish (available in fourteen fabrics, nearly all of which use Green-LAM?), versatile (can be used as a tote, messenger bag or stroller bag) and packable (two exterior and seven interior pockets). As an added bonus, the bag not only includes a changing pad, but also a removable insulated bottle holder that clips securely into the interior of the bag.
