2011 Black Friday Deals: Best Values on the Hottest Toys

When my 8-year-old woke up and realized it was Friday, she said, “Hey, Mom! Just one week until Black Friday.” As if I haven’t been counting down for weeks. I’ve been scouting the Black Friday preview ads, but I still can’t wait to get my hands on the real thing — it’s our annual Thanksgiving tradition.

Turkey in the oven, newspaper ads spread across the kitchen table!

We’ll compare our gift list to the ads for the ultimate Black Friday shopping list. We have a great time with it, but it does take up most of the day. Lucky for you, I’ve already gotten started on the process! Check out the best deals for some of this year’s hottest toys:

  • Bikes and Scooters, from $20 1 of 20
    Bikes and Scooters, from $20
You'll find bike & scooter deals at almost every store this year.

It looks like the best bet for bikes is Kmart, featuring dozens of bikes from $24.99 for a toddler bike to $119.99 for an adult bike.

Target has folding Razor scooters for just $20 in Barbie or Hot Wheels.

  • Cabbage Patch Kid Sitting Pretty doll, $12.99 2 of 20
Cabbage Patch Kid Sitting Pretty doll, $12.99
My mom still fondly remembers the year she searched store after store (unsuccessfully) to put a CPK doll under the tree. Get one for your own little girl for just $12.99 at Target!
  • Connect 4 Launchers, $12.99 3 of 20
    Connect 4 Launchers, $12.99
Connect 4 Launchers has made a few best toy lists this year, and Target's got it for just $12.99 on Black Friday. This sale also includes Rock 'Em, Sock 'Em Robots and Whac-A-Mole, possibly more unadvertised.
  • Dollhouse, $69.99 4 of 20
    Dollhouse, $69.99
What little girl doesn't want a dollhouse as big as she is? We got ours at Costco a few years ago, but this year the Kohl's deal is a little better. Find it for $69.99 on Black Friday from midnight to 1pm.
  • Family Games, $5 5 of 20
    Family Games, $5
Toys R Us is getting in on the game bargain action. Starting Thanksgiving at 9pm, you'll find Twister Hoopla, Toy Story Connect 4 and more for just $5! This sale lasts through Saturday at 11pm.
  • Hot Wheels Wall Tracks, $24.99 6 of 20
    Hot Wheels Wall Tracks, $24.99
Kohl's is advertising 50% off all Hot Wheels, Matchbox and Nerf toys for Black Friday. This includes the popular Hot Wheels Wall Tracks for just $24.99.

They also mailed out 15% off ThankSaving Days coupons to credit card customers that you can use for additional savings.

  • Just Dance 3, $19.99 7 of 20
    Just Dance 3, $19.99
Just Dance 3 from Ubisoft is the most highly anticipated game of the year! By me. Meijer will have it for just $19.99 — the best deal I've found. It will also be on sale at Best Buy, for $24.99, featuring two "exclusive" Katy Perry songs. In my experience, the bonus songs are available for download and usually free anyway.
  • LeapPad/Explorer Games, $14.99 8 of 20
    LeapPad/Explorer Games, $14.99
The LeapPad itself is a hot commodity — not only am I not finding a deal, I'm not seeing it available anywhere! However, the games, for both LeapPad & Leapster, will be on sale at Target all weekend.
  • Lego Creator Sets, from $15 9 of 20
    Lego Creator Sets, from $15
Toys R Us has 2 separate deals on Lego sets — 40% off select sets 5am-1pm Black Friday and 35% off other sets from Thanksgiving to 11pm Saturday.

Meijer also has smaller Creators in their Black Friday ad for just $15, as well as other sets for $4.99 & $9.99. Legos are always a hit, so either way you'll get a great deal on a fun toy.

  • Little People Zoo Talkers, $34.99 10 of 20
    Little People Zoo Talkers, $34.99
I miss having people little enough to enjoy these toys. At least I still get to buy for my niece & nephews! Kmart has buy one, get one half price on all Little People toys in their earlybird sale. I wonder if that includes the $34.99 deal on the Zoo Talkers...?
  • Little Tikes 2-in-1 Garden Cart & Wheelbarrow, $24.99 11 of 20
Little Tikes 2-in-1 Garden Cart & Wheelbarrow, $24.99
Toys R Us is featuring this Good Housekeeping hot toy for $24.99 during their 5am-1pm Black Friday earlybird sale. The Get Out & Grill Playset is also $24.99 with this sale.
  • Melissa & Doug Sets, 50% off 12 of 20
Melissa & Doug Sets, 50% off
Michael's will have Melissa & Doug sets for half off the regular price.

It's one of our regular Black Friday stops — the ad will include several different % off coupons for your craft needs, too.

  • Nintendo 3DS Super Mario Bundle, $179.99 13 of 20
Nintendo 3DS Super Mario Bundle, $179.99
The 3DS is Nintendo's latest & greatest handheld device. You will find sales at Kmart, Sears and Toys R Us, but the best deal is $179.99 at Target. The holiday bundle will include Super Mario brothers, but it's unclear whether that will be a cartridge or a preinstalled game as some holiday offers have been in the past.

The 3D version of the DS is not recommended for children under 7, so if you're shopping for a younger Nintendo fan (or you simply want a better deal), hit Meijer on Saturday for the Santa Bucks sale. Use the $20 off coupon towards their DSi advertised at $149.99.
  • Nintendo DS & Wii games, from $5 14 of 20
Nintendo DS & Wii games, from $5
DS & Wii games will both be featured $5, $10 or $15 during Target's weekend sale. Toys R Us has 2 full pages of games buy one, get one free.
  • Nintendo Wii, $99 15 of 20
    Nintendo Wii, $99
I thought I'd found a pretty good deal with the $149 Wii Super Mario bundle at Costco a few weeks ago, but a couple stores will feature the Wii console for under $100.

Meijer has the Wii hardware for $99. Walmart & Sam's Club will have a special blue version for $99.96.

  • Pillow Pets, $19.99 16 of 20
    Pillow Pets, $19.99
I don't know what it is about these things, but the girls are constantly adding them to their wishlists. At Target's weekend price, I may just cave this year. You also receive a FREE teeny pillow pet with purchase.
  • Preschool Games, $3.99 17 of 20
    Preschool Games, $3.99
This is one of my favorite annual Black Friday deals. Even if I don't have someone in the age group on my list, I try to pick out a few to donate through Toys for Tots.

This year I'll grab Candy Land (Cootie, Yahtzee Jr. and more will also be on sale) while I'm at Target, but JCPenney will have the same deal.

  • Scientific Explorers, $9.99 18 of 20
    Scientific Explorers, $9.99
The Disgusting Special Effects Make-Up Kit looks, well, disgusting — but that's pretty much the point for boys in this age range. Toys R Us will have several Scientific Explorer's kits on sale for the weekend.
  • Spynet Night Vision Infrared Stealth Binoculars, $24.99 19 of 20
Spynet Night Vision Infrared Stealth Binoculars, $24.99
SpyNet gear is always a hit with boys. I didn't find the Bionic Ear featured on the toy list, but I think the night vision binoculars at Toys R Us will be a pretty good deal.
  • XBox Kinect Holiday Bundle, $99 20 of 20
    XBox Kinect Holiday Bundle, $99
This year's Kinect Holiday Bundle from XBox features Kinect Adventures plus Gunslinger & Fruit Ninja downloadable games. Toys R Us & Walmart are advertising it for $99.99.

Target's $99 price includes an additional game in Wipeout 2, making it an even better deal.
